Inspired by the brand Muji and their hotels, we try to emulate the same spirit within the design of the apartment. The existing apartment had plenty of fenestrations to let light in but had a long narrow albeit open plan living, dining and pantry area. We decided to open this up by introducing an operable opening between the second bedroom-cum-study and the living area, which resulted in lots of borrowed, diffused light into the deepest end of the pantry whilst also giving the option of privacy should it be used as a guest bedroom or concall meetings. Likewise, we introduced fluted glass partitions and doors to diffuse light in the master bedroom and lift foyer respectively in order to achieve the same goals.

Finishes were kept to a monochromatic minimum of warm oak tones, greys and whites to complement the existing beige local marble flooring, allowing the ambience of the space to evolve with the changing light levels throughout the day.
