JT Residence

Set in a secluded corner site of a planned gated housing complex in North Jakarta, JT Residence is a residential renovation project to an existing planned cluster typology housing model.

Completed in 2021, this project was brought to life through a collaborative effort between studio.talk and Eben Lontoh.

With a focus on accommodating a family of five, JT Residence was designed to serve as a sanctuary for its inhabitants—a place of solace and personal growth. To achieve this, we employed a thoughtful design approach that incorporates a vertical double-height timber louvers massing in the facade, which seamlessly connects but also demarcates distinct sections of the house. This is then juxtaposed with another notable feature of the residence – its slanted pitched roof. The accentuation of which in turn forms the main language for the composition of the house.

Moreover, the continuous window spanning between two different sides of the structure fosters a sense of openness and connectivity for its residents. The integration of three primary materials (timber louvres, pink clay tiles, and light grey wall paint) throughout the facade helps to achieve a harmonious balance and visual appeal, creating a cohesive architectural composition amongst its surrounding context.
